Abstract

Introduction: Calcinosis cutis is a benign, uncommon disorder that can affect any region of the skin and is typically asymptomatic. It is characterised by several tiny, nodular, painless, hard swellings of different sizes that don't occur in conjunction with any underlying metabolic or systemic disorders. Several hypotheses have been put up to explain the pathophysiology of this illness, however the main argument centres on whether it is completely idiopathic or due to dystrophic calcification. There have only been a few case series of this creature mentioned in the literature.
Aims and Objectives: This case series aims to describe an uncommon condition called idiopathic cutaneous calcinosis that may be precisely identified using clinical, pathological, and metabolic correlation.
Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive study to be conducted in Department of Pathology, VIMSAR, Burla, Sambalpur. Data are collected from the FNA records and archived slides of all the cytologically diagnosed cases of idiopathic calcinosis cutis in the Department of Pathology, VIMSAR, Burla within the period from January 2019 to December 2021, including the different demographic variables. All data were analysed and tabulated respectively. Histopathological correlation was done whichever was available.
Conclusion: The present study is intended to alert the pathologists to consider calcinosis cutis as a differential diagnosis in any swelling yielding whitish granular material on FNAC as it is a potential mimic of a neoplastic lesions. It also reaffirms that FNAC is a straightforward, quick, and effective method, especially for soft tissue lesions like calcinosis cutis. And in collaboration with serological and biochemical findings can help in effectively manage the patient.
